Just before Christmas, Robyn from The Black Peony Florist invited me to shoot some behind the scenes images as she installed a gorgeous floral installation for a birthday party. We wanted some pictures to show off her skills honed over years working as a florist as well as give an insight into who she is and what it is like to work with her, as well as having a very good laugh along the way.

Shooting Robyn in her element important to give an insight into her personality, floristry skills and style as well as showing that a real person is behind the business and that she absolutely appreciates every single customer. It was important to show the beautiful elements she works with, her environment and adaptability as a skilled and experienced lady. Robyn recognises the value of creating images which forge a connection between potential customers and businesses, making them much more likely to choose them over a supplier without an insight into who they are. Between swatting away flies and broken stems, she kept her quick workflow happening and has a few funny faces she pulls when she is trying to work out the perfect positioning of pampas – but I’ll let her show you those pictures!

On a stunning homestead nestled in Gruyere, the party was set to take place on the verandah, so using the custom frame from The Setup Co, and combined wild foraged components with burnt caramel roses, pampas grasses, palm leaves and more to create this statement piece. Like magic, I watched the artwork appear before my eyes and cameras as she lovingly gave each piece its place.

Her creativity and workflow is so interesting to watch and document with images and I highly recommend her as a florist and an excellent, kind human and I can’t wait to work with her again.
